چکیده

Edge-sealing, which involves treating the edges of wood products, improves water resistance. This study investigated feasibility edge-sealed cross-laminated timber (CLT) panels to reduce capillary uptake, thereby resisting mould formation. The and vapour permeabilities ten characteristically different single-layer sealant coating systems were systematically determined. Multi-modal assessment leveraged by computed tomography (CT) scanning methodology was used enhance detection material characteristics beyond standard permeability assessment. Moisture content observed change during specimens’ absorption desorption depending on system applied. results revealed coatings stages. Findings from this develop recommendations regarding resistance systems, curing time, susceptibility formation, industrial applicability. Results suggest that CLT could minimise risk can occur at worksites with minimal weather protection. method developed in provides a basis evaluate new determine use case is best for particular type. also incorporates insights industry identify future research orientations, may pave way designs techniques.

Recent advances in edge illumination x-ray phase-contrast tomography.

Edge illumination (EI) is an x-ray phase-contrast imaging technique, exploiting sensitivity to x-ray refraction to visualize features, which are often not detected by conventional absorption-based radiography. The method does not require a high degree of spatial coherence and is achromatic and, therefore, can be implemented with both synchrotron radiation and commercial x-ray tubes. Using diffe...

Multi-scale modelling of moisture diffusion coupled with stress distribution in CFRP laminated composites

Laminated composite structures operating in a marine environment are subject to moisture ingress. Due to the slow diffusion process of moisture, the distribution of moisture is not uniform so that the laminates can develop hygrothermal stresses. An accurate prediction of the moisture concentration and the associated hygrothermal stress is vital to the understanding of the effect of marine envir...

Multi-Mounted X-Ray Computed Tomography

Most existing X-ray computed tomography (CT) techniques work in single-mounted mode and need to scan the inspected objects one by one. It is time-consuming and not acceptable for the inspection in a large scale. In this paper, we report a multi-mounted CT method and its first engineering implementation. It consists of a multi-mounted scanning geometry and the corresponding algebraic iterative r...

An iterative method to estimate x-ray attenuation coefficients in computed tomography

Introduction: The basis of image formation in Computed Tomography (CT) lies in the x-ray linear attenuation coefficient of the scanned material. Compton scattering and photoelectric effect are the dominant interactions of the x-ray photons with the subject, in the range of diagnostic radiology. These two coefficients are important in tissue characterization by Dual-Energy CT (D...
